SUMMARY:Happy Hour with the Historian: Preservation and the Fight to Save Revolutionary War Battlefields
DESCRIPTION:Tonight's lecture is on the archaeology of the battlefield at Brandywine and how it is being used to inform the preservation of the historical site. Our speaker\, Kevin Donaghy\, is using his investigation to change some of the accepted interpretation of the site as new facts and artifacts are uncovered. He'll bring along some of these artifacts for a "show and tell" and explain the importance of local community involvement in the preservation of the site.\n\nDonaghy is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Anthropology at Temple University. He earned his BA in anthropology at Penn in 2005. As a single parent he worked while attending night classes. After graduation and a family vote\, the kids agreed that dad should "go for it" and he was accepted at Temple. \n \nDonaghy trained in Middle East archaeology\, including the Early Bronze Age site of R'as al Jinz in Oman. In addition he trained in conflict archaeology in the Alpine region of Italy on battlefields near present day Asiago. \n \nThere is a $5 cover charge with a cash wine and beer bar and light refreshments. We start serving at 6 pm and the lecture begins at 7. No cover charge for Members. \n\n\n
