SUMMARY:Lunch & Learn: The Underground Railroad
DESCRIPTION:Join us and our speakers from the Kennett Underground Railroad Center to learn about abolitionists like Thomas Garrett\, Isaac and Dinah Mendenhall\, John and Hannah Cox\, and Dr. Bartholomew Fussell — all of whom risked much for the cause of freedom. Their narratives feature accounts of freedom seekers who were often pursued by slave catchers\, incidents of kidnapping\, and extraordinary acts of bravery undertaken by those committed to securing their freedom. Central to these efforts was the Progressive Friends Meeting\, located just outside the gated entrance to Longwood Gardens\, which brought together influential figures such as Sojourner Truth\, Frederick Douglass\, Harriet Tubman\, and many others.\n\nKURC is a not-for-profit\, all volunteer organization located in Kennett Square\, PA. Celebrating its 28th year\, the organization is dedicated to preserving and sharing the stories of local and regional abolitionists\, Underground Railroad agents\, and freedom-seekers.\n\nEnjoy a waffle breakfast\, lecture on the Underground Railroad\, and a hot catered lunch\, followed by a tour of the Keith House if you wish.\n\n$42/person\n$36/members\n$36/early registration (thru April 1)\n\n \n\nGet Tickets Online\n\n\n #button8475c7fa8d4140f69b24ee59c1b57046:hover {\n background-color: #39447c !important;\n color: #fafafa !important;\n }\n\n\n \n\nIf you'd prefer to pay by check\, please download and print the registration form to mail with your check.\n\nPlease note: We've switched our ticketing system to Zeffy\, open exclusively to non-profits\, and the good news is they charge ZERO fees\, so the ticket price you see is the price you will pay. They do ask for a "tip" to offset their costs\, but tipping is completely optional.
