1722 Road Return Laying Out Governor’s Road
As we mentioned in a recent Gazette, a descendent of the Penrose family has submitted some documents for acquisition by the PHMC. Among these were the road return which ordered the creation of Governor’s Road from Willow Grove to “Fountain Low” – the original name of Graeme Park. The document is dated March 28, 1722 and notes that Keith has made “considerable advancement in the erecting of a Building at Horsham.” The building could have been the Keith House or it could have been one of the other buildings he was building for the manufacture of grain alcohol, depending on whether or not you subscribe to the Keith House having been the original malt house.
